Nightmares

Don’t ask me where I’m going

Cuz I don’t know

Don’t ask if you can come along

Cuz I’m not sure

The distance I have traveled already

Has been sea and shore

And now here I am,

Once again ready to go

Don’t ask me where i’ve been

Cuz its secret

Done ask me if i’ve seen all I wanted to find

Don’t ask me if i’ve escaped my mind

Don’t ask me if i’ll be alright

Don’t ask if the treasure is finally mines

Don’t ask me if i’ve walked a thousand miles

Cuz you could never fit my shoes,

Don’t ask me to tell the stories of my travels

The ones I’ll tell you

I will choose

This is all a bit new

For you…

Don’t ask me what chilled my bones

And ate my flesh on the cold nights

Don’t ask me what all it was I had to fight

Don’t ask me how long

I was confined to the night

All the while grasping for the sun

All while grasping for someone

All while praying my journey will come…

To an end

And when I wake up from this nightmare

Dont stroke my hair

Don’t send God a prayer

Cuz when I was stuck you were never there

And when I was lost you didn’t care

And I’m almost dead

And you’re over there…

So if you don’t mind

Go back

So I can return to my dreams…

  1. I’m a big fan of “bending the rules” when it comes to wordplay, particularly in this craft, and while I did something similar in one of my most recent posts, yours feels more raw, and direct. No need for flashiness – you’re to the point, and that’s truly effective writing 🙂 Amazing!

  2. A thought provoking poem here with so much feeling in it. Well done.

  3. One of my favorites, solely for the journey you took knee on.

I rode this to the end.

    Excellent!

  4. Relic

Sometimes when hard times come you’ve got to put it in your back pocket. I can feel plenty of emotion in this Andazi. 🙂
