Her Face Was Pale

This I vow I won’t forget

her face was pale

and hair all wet

 

the night was lit

with green and red

reflected in the pool she bled

 

“I couldn’t stop” “I didn’t see

I thought to say

but couldn’t speak

 

I couldn’t hear

the scene was mute

she lay so near

and then I knew

 

I couldn’t help

I didn’t try

I sat and held her head

and cried
