Epic   Fantasy   Friend   Funny   Love   Main   Nature   Other   Sorrow

Aftermath (or It Wasn’t Us)

Spinnin’ runnin’ circles

on my mind like a roller coaster
Feelin’ feelings of fumbles

and tackles I ain’t supposed to

Facin ‘ the loss of a good person

just like I remember
In December, suspected the fallin’ out

but things were simpler

Happier times and facin’ the world,

we were together .
Smiles and happy vibes all around ,

birds of a feather.

Can’t seem to pinpoint

the exact moment within our history
When everything was fallin’ apart

like an unsolved mystery

Connection was sacred.

How can this love turn into hatred?
She ain’t the one, I’m guessin?

It’s time to exit the matrix

Face the world at its bleakest

gettin’ tired of the fake shit
Cupid’s venom radiatin’

on a regular basis

Stasis at its most basic got me

feelin’ like an instrument
Gettin’ played by many different women

a state of detriment

Turnin’ to Howard Hughes-

isolation within the bachelor pad
Couldn’t accept our division before

but this is the aftermath.

  1. This poem is just on time! I’ve been having a lot of similar thoughts, losing connection and not being to point the exact moment that happened. This is great, Cyrus! Very well constructed from beginning to end. And this stanza “Stasis at its most basic got me

    feelin’ like an instrument
Gettin’ played by many different women

    a state of detriment”
    Awesome work as always!

    • Thank you for stopping by and checking this out, my friend 🙂 Believe it or not this was one of my first submissions on the original Poetfreak but it still speaks to me today. I hope you’ve found that connection again. Thanks again, Mona 🙂

  2. “Facin ‘ the loss of a good person

    just like I remember ”

    A memory I’ll never forget.
Nicely penned, as always, my friend!

  3. the best thing about it is the moment you realize you’re reading the last line – the feeling lasts, even when it’s over.. I can’t explain it, but that single moment is so.. strangely enlightening, idk… it’s just great, you know what I mean 😉

    • I know exactly what you mean, brother 🙂 Thanks for the continued support, and I hope that future writes have a similar effect on you!

    • Thanks for stopping by and reading this 🙂 inspired by a real breakup back in 2014 actually. Writing poetry has helped me more than I know.

      I appreciate your feedback!
