Dreamscape Voyage Part 4 (Clouds of Desire)

Like magic, my raft ascended the mountain peak.
I’d hoped before reaching the top my guide would speak.

Though the next best thing to it I suppose,

He met me in person where the mountain rose.

With a gesture of his hand he bid me to see

A vast sea of clouds seemingly stretching for eternity.

A solitary bridge broke their consistent roll

“Though it requires no currency, there is still a toll.”

After waiting so long my guide’s voice had resurged.

“To make it across you must resist temptation and avoid any urge!”

In only moments, I understood what he meant.

Visions of my greatest desires had been sent.

One by one, the smokey images called out to me.

Of lives I wanted and loves not meant to be.

“Should you fall down, this dream will end.

You’ve come so far, do you want to start over again?”

Advice from my guide returned my sense

But I knew to keep moving before the next wave commenced.

My guide never judged me for the depravities he saw.

Or any embarrassments that came from the maw.

“We all have hidden desires that no one should see.

Not letting them control you seems strength enough to me.

The end is in sight and our final destination resides

For now we enter the desert of pride.”

  1. You’ve managed to take me into the scene as I read his and come away from it feeling as if I was there. Love when poetry does that to me. Superb!

    • Thank you Jarid, that was my goal so I’m glad I reached it. Admittedly this one wasn’t as hard to describe as the previous ones, but I’m happy with it nonetheless :).

  2. I almost feel as if it’s a disservice to read this before having read the previous entries, but as I kept going along I was hooked! Couldn’t stop reading it, so I hope you don’t mind me checking out the other parts as well 🙂 Thanks for sharing this truly epic tale!

    • No problem Cyrus, thanks for stopping by! The only thing you “missed” per se is the introduction of “the guide”. Other than that I feel like each part tells enough of a singular story to not get lost.

  3. I ‘m not aware of previous parts, but as a stand alone, this is real good.

  4. what I loved the most about it is that the ending screams “to be continued…” & also this sort of epic fantasy setting which is, if i remember well, present in some of your other work.. it just doesn’t get any better than that 😉

    • Thank you Nebojsa! I do like me some fantasy. I plan on part 5 being the conclusion so I’ve got to make sure it goes out with a bang!
