Place Like This

With those words from your mouth,

you stand there amazed.

But don’t you look so down no,

no you’re not half crazed.

Because it truly hurts when another castle,

one of your castles in the sky is razed.

And these aren’t exactly happy fields,

happy fields which your mind does graze.

It can make you crazy.

Do what you can to get by.

Do your best, at least you try.

In a place like this.

A place like this.

Now we’ve got pockets full of gold,

ain’t that enough?

We’ve got the ears of the world,

that should be enough.

Tweeting more than the birds,

our voices turned gruff.

We speak of love and of mercies,

then we act all tough.

Something always going on.

Everybody’s got an opinion,

and hey you’re gonna know it.

Different flags they’re gonna wave,

yeah they’re gonna show it.

So the poisons infect their seeds,

still they’re gonna sow it.

You’ve only got one life they say,

and they say “Boy don’t you blow it.”

You better not blow it.

It’s all a mystery.

Waiting, waiting for that moment,

when the curtains finally part.

You’ll see someone was always there,

always there from the start.

Until then.

Do what you can to get by.

Do your best, at least you try.

In a place like this.

A place like this.

  1. Thanks for reading, kind of pulled this out of the idea of being born into a world of sin. You can’t always blame yourself for what’s going on in your mind, and geez I know I certainly do and am part of this “world of sin.” Thanks again, appreciate it.

  2. Poetry is, for me , personal interpretationand I interpreted this to be a spiritual verse as in
..” when the curtains finally part you’ll see someone was always there..” I took that to mean God who’s been there all the time. A great comfort in these words.

    • Glad it could be and yes that in a nutshell was what that was about, & how it can be hard sometimes to voyage through this world keeping all of your marbles intact. Happy you interpreted it that way & thanks for reading.

    • Thanks Rome. That is really what I’m trying for on most of what I post here.
