Panopticon

Don’t keep on waiting by the phone

There’s no one on the other side

You know we’ve always been alone

Confined by words they’ve thrown at us

like stones

by flashbacks of a childhood

wasted on their wars

& by bleak walls of a classroom

The laws they enforce

They’ll never know

to what heights took us

Our hunger to find

the eternal source

& we’ll know how low

they’d place us

before we’d try to open doors

silencing daring ideas

& defining every feeling

yet while we traveled worlds & light years

To them the sky was but a ceiling

& it makes no sense to be afraid now

We’ve grown to walk invisible

Over into morrow

Arising from our caskets

Now humming a new theme

Our parting with sorrow

So why’d you still wait by the phone

All the known idols are dead

Your choices must be yours alone

To keep the phantom taste

Of things that end today

’cause tomorrow we may not be gone

  1. I like the sense of foreboding in this Nebojsa! “& it makes no sense to be afraid now We’ve grown to walk invisible Over into morrow” Really great atmosphere in these lines!

  2. Another gem, my friend!

  4. Nice verse, NB. I agree that the atmosphere in this one is a strong point. The wording too and the smooth flow. Did I mention the rhyming that goes almost unnoticed? Yup, a grand read.
