Footprints

(I know this isn’t written in a poetry format but I liked it and wanted to share)

From my perch atop the rocks, I can clearly see the spectacular change before me. The tide lazily strokes the warm sand at my feet, and the distant waves slowly cease their dancing. The water changes as it reflects the changing sky, a window into another, unknown world of clouds. Brilliant blue fades to a soft display of pastels, the white shine of the sun to a deep crimson shade. I watch the colors sink deeper and deeper below the horizon, falling slowly into the ocean. Somewhere far away, seagulls call to one another, “goodnight”, then fall silent as the evening breeze sings them to sleep. The clouds above seem to have faded with the sunset, replaced with jovial stars, which wink and chatter to each other in a strange, forgotten language. The pearlescent moon beckons to the wind, which immediately begins to quicken its pace, running its fingers through my hair. I stand, the sudden chill of the cold sand beneath my feet sending a shiver down my spine. I set off at a slow, leisurely pace down the beach, my footprints a temporary monument to my nighttime wanderings. The tide will come and carry them into the endless void of dark water in the morning, when the sun will return with its anthem of color and light, but for now they remain. They stay planted in the sand, waiting for the moon to fall.

  1. Ok so I know this isn’t at all a poem, but I love writing these descriptive little blurbs and thought I may as well share.

  2. I hate to break this to you, but this is a poem. Forget all that “format” crap. I write in this way occasionally. Poetry should take any form the poet wants. You’re 13? When I read it I thought it was done by someone much older. This is really quite good. Keep working and develop a voice that is YOUR OWN. The only way to do that is to keep writing. Something tells me you will…

    • ah! you have no idea how happy your comment made me. ive always been really self conscious about what I write, and im so glad you enjoyed it! (also please ignore h\the fact that I capitalize nothing in my comments)

  3. I agree with Grehory54 . Everyone has their own unique style, and that is something to be proud of. Keep up the good work.

    • thank you! ive been playing around with different styles, just trying to see what seems to fit. ill probably post a lot of diverse stuff.
