It was the day I realized this life wasn’t just black and white …
it was the day I watched his blood paint the sidewalk red
it was the day I found solace in a knife
it was the day I couldn’t get the image out of my head
gunshots and screams rang out through that block people ran away as my uncle’s heart stopped
they don’t tell you how to respond to this kind of pain
how to respond to this kind of ache
you could find my grandma saying his name crying
you could find my aunt teary eyed and mouth open couldn’t speak any language but shock
you could find 10 year old me holding tight to my mom asking her if she could remember when this world would spin …I asked her if she could feel his spirit leave …I asked her if she could hear time stop ..
my God! you may never know the sound of a innocent life that was too Young to  stop breathing …but I do .
The sound of breath that will never find it’s way back
the sound of a loved one forever departed that you wish you could make come back
It was the day I wondered if murderers could ever clean blood stained hands
it was the day I realized my love for him wasn’t enough to make his soul live
to make his heart beat …
it was the day my life changed on a street named after a man that in a time of conflict preached of nothing but peace ….
my uncle learned this world is full of sin
