Disconnected

What would you think about a father
who leaves the welfare of his children
to others?

A father, who doesn’t show his face
or talk to his children
on an individual basis.

When tragedy strikes
there is no comforting arm
nor words of sympathy from this father.

If someone bullies or abuses his children,
he stands by and watches,
never raising a hand to help.

At your lowest point,
he won’t answer your call,
or make a show of support.

This father
leaves instructions
about how to live life,

how to be good to one another,
in a manual written by others
over two millennia ago.

He asks his children to have faith
and all will become clear
in time,

as long as they are good
and worship him
on a regular basis.

Yet, despite his apparent disinterest
in me,
I still believe in Him.

  1. wow, nice piece Eli. What’s written here is what’s going through my head on a daily basis, especially that last verse. Truth be told myself and many others really haven’t been good, obedient children always either.

    • I don’t think we can always be good. I guess we weren’t made that way for a reason. And I know I could be delusional – believing, but I don’t care. If that’s the case, it feels right being delusional cos I’m at my most content when the delusion is strong and electric inside my veins.
