For You I See the Smiling Future

An altar sits upon a dung heap
as the stink of lying
filters through the days events
the shining hopper of a mouth
expends clown honks
the goon in the happy mask
gives out free breath mints.

Stagger down this hallway of words
dished out dollops of mental phlegm
clog the pipes of the innocent
one hundred dollar bills are stuffed
down the ancient gullible throats
one more time just one more time.

There is a dark and malevolent
patient demon peering into the dead eyeballs
of a vast and deathly mass of egotists
a detailed schematic of the ending
sits on the lap of the smiling future
it is the weight of countless ages
and the size of the earth times two.

But
face the day my friend
kill the dying thoughts this morning
and fill your cup to the brim.

I will watch for the demon
and fall asleep when he calls.
You will awaken then.
