Don’t you wish to taste the world?
The same way you’ve once cared to run
When every distant light you chased
With childlike bliss, with rampant fear
Became a horror of its own
Your first memories still seem fresh
Dispelled the beauty of the world
Your first dreams never were of change
– How many have seen that far? –
You’ve only wanted to retreat
To stay away from what things are
But behind any side of the wall
Lies the beauty, the untouched
On any side, under our feet
The cursed ground, the plague of life
To taste the world is suffering
Is death, engulfed in fantasy
To stay outside – a foolish dream
To live, to die
Is all to be

Pure emotion, I love the melancholy. Very well done.

“Why are we dying to live, if we’re just living to die?” -TuPac Shakur
I felt this all the way through.
Build a wall..
Don’t build a wall..
Nothing’s gonna takeaway the hate.. on either side.
Another masterful write.
thanks for the reminder.. my brother introduced me to 2pac’s music when i was 11 or so, and i was so fascinated by that chorus that really pushed me forward in writing.. hmm i guess my rap roots go further back than i expected 🙂
what can i say, the poet is a part of the person that wants to change things, the unsatisfied, unhappy part.. at least in my case.. i guess i felt good enough for a while not to feel the need to put words on paper.. but despite that, feels good to write actively again 🙂 thank u for always being here
Only wanted to retreat
To stay away from what things are
I can say i’ve followed that line quite a bit, and sometimes I haven’t.
Great poem.
