I Once Knew a Girl

I once knew a girl who could dance like the rain,
Her steps as sure as the seasons change,
She laughed like summer and she sang like snow,
Knew every song on the radio,
Until suddenly,
Like a drawing in the sand,
The tides swept you off the land,
And took you from me,
Like starlight,
That always fades with dawn
And every time the stars are gone,
I lose my way.
I once knew a girl who could name every star,
Who would point out where the constellations are
She liked her hair tied up and her coffee plain,
This girl who liked birds and rocks and trains,
Until suddenly,
Like smoke in august breeze,
You were whisked away from me,
To somewhere faraway.
Like starlight,
That always fades with dawn,
My darling where’ve you gone?
I’m wandering blind
