Falling From Jupiter

There was a time when I lived in the sky,
When I danced with Orion and Cancer,
When I drifted in grace where the bright comets fly
A joyous celestial dancer.

Such light did I find there in cosmic lumosity,
Such joy did I take from the starlight,
Not once did the thought ever cross curiosity,
Of a world where this splendor was finite.

Of falling from grace, beneath the horizon,
Of watching the stars shooting back to the sky,
Of how moonlight would feel as it slipped through my fingers,
Of tripping, and falling from Jupiter.

I glittered with silver, but gold was much brighter,
All the more lovely, the higher the star,
So upwards I climbed, where the starlight was lighter,
Dismissing the thought I might fly up too far.

A moment, my fingertips brushed against starlight,
One beautiful second, the whole world was mine,
But I’d travelled too high, and I tripped on the sunrise,
And then I was falling, through bottomless sky.

I’m falling from grace, beneath the horizon,
And watching the stars shooting back to the sky,
Feeling the moonlight as it slips through my fingers,
I’ve tripped, and I’m falling from Jupiter.

Dropping through moonlight, Europa, Castillo,
Pleading with Lyra to slow my descent,
Falling below where the cosmic winds billow,
Shrouded in darkness I’ve grown to resent.

Sky vacant of starlight, the darkness is frightening,
So cold is the rain, and so angry the storms
Somewhere beneath Neptune, and among cosmic lightning
Where stars fall to die, and where dark matter forms.

Too far to recall the sensation of flying,
But still close enough to hear Jupiter crying.
