A Billowing Pit

I see you there-standing idle,

I  see your face and a glint that fascinates…

When the wind is hot and shadows slink,

I see what could have been and all that went away….

I feel inside something obtuse  and tight,

Is it a nail on the chalkboard of this soul?

Or a prelude to an epiphany?

We may never know, and if we do we won”t ever tell…

Light another fire for the brigade to snuff out,

Rampaging in a city starved of justice,

Catch it on camera, write a song about it, live it…

The news pumps up the fear,

Dousing the sheep with what they think they want,

Where does the outrage go once it’s come home to roost?

Today’s cool air is tinted with heavy smoke and dust,

As the protesters take a break from the destruction,

And I still see you standing there somehow from beyond..

What would you have done

if it were me, laying there stunned?

Would you destroy to fight the man?

Could you ever understand???
