Black Beauty

He’s a black beauty

With shoulders the size of my thighs

Speaking softly like a poem in a dream

His long dreads swing slowly in the rain

As he holds my hand

He quotes Hughes, Baldwin and Malcolm

As though,  he wrote them himself

While he makes love with the microphone

I drift into the songs of Marvin Gaye

And dance gracefully into the midnight moon

His kiss is sweet as chocolate ice cream

Melting in the warm summer sun

He’s everything I wanted

But he’s with someone else
