Collapsing Star (or the Cosmology Episode)

My desperation’s engulfing,
begging for your attention,
An impossible story
that I’d forgotten to mention

Our Sheratan has been missing
and I’m feeling the void
I pray the heavens and wishing
that I wasn’t annoyed

You’ve been gone for days,
the certainty has been piercing
Took too long to say this –
Now my love’s belated

Here to share the latest-
I’m standing still, a fanatic
who’s unwilling to let you go
stuck in static

And now I’ve had it!
Can’t be living without you
Quick to pick up a piece,
my disease is thinking about you

Out of touch with the real,
I’m ready to claim my fantasy
Ready to make a deal,
leave this world while keeping my sanity

I can’t take it.

Collapsing under the pressure,
my knees are locking up.
the crushing weight is compressing
The grief is shocking us

And your mother had fainted,
astonished at your departure
But your father had caught her;
they just lost their daughter

Tears fill the room lacking colour,
people dressed in black
The onyx level of sorrow
keep them chained in fact

My interstellar attachment
keeps me loyal to you.
Loyal to you.
Loyal to you.

I don’t want to admit it
I’m discouraged and livid
I repress and fidget,
both depressed and rigid

I just buried you.
An emotional wave has struck us
and your aunt said she wished
that I married you…

And so I found a way,
I named our Sheratan star
which is far away, but so close to me.

So close to me. So close to me.
So tangible and immortal
You’re so close to me.

  1. Such a masterful way of mixing the sorrow of loss with the beauty and wonder of the cosmos. This was such a treat for all the senses as each one was given a different concept to experience.

    • I’m so thankful and relieved to see that the juxtaposition came across easily to you 🙂 Thank you kindly for checking the piece out, my friend. Much appreciated!

  2. Another excellent piece of writing, my friend.
    Really enjoyed the rhyme scheme.

    Melancholy, to say the least.
    You portrayed this perfectly.

    Well done!

    • Hey brother – much appreciate the read. Thank you so much as always, my friend!

  3. Oh Cyrus.. this is beautiful..
There’s a balance here between the melancholy and the beauty, the poetic devices and the story. And also, you called it “Collapsed Star” I applaud, my friend.
I did miss reading from you, while I was scrolling I saw “Le Luthier” and I remember how I loved that one back when you posted it. Really can’t wait to read more 🙂

    • Thank you so much for stopping by and reading this, my friend 🙂 it’s honestly great to see you on here, and I’m equally anxious to read more of your material!
