I Am Just Outside Your Window

Every spring,
just outside your window,
I am unfurling glistening
white upon white,
and the sparrows that sing
and alight
on your backyard bough –
yet where are you now?
Steeped in the story
of Adam and Eve’s fall,
steeped in the conviction
you’re sinners one and all,
and high on repetition
as are drumstick and the drum
that Christ in all His glory
and splendour at last will come –
holding on too tight
to the story you miss My delight,
My unfurling glistening
white upon white.
Spring celebrates each year – meeting
your half-hearted listening…
Let ancient myths instruct, inspire
and lead you to your native fire
but neither bow to them nor cling
lest dependence weigh down your wings.
Dependence cannot see Me –
yet you might, leaving the nursery.
Dare to stand strong and be alone;
dare to make a myth of your own.

  1. Maybe someday, they will tell stories of the Hellion and his quest for truth, peace, and love.
