If poetry matters
Then why does the poetry section
Of my local bookstore is always in disarray?
Or there’s not enough of the classics
Like Ginsberg or Bukowski?
It makes me feel old
When I see the latest of a young twenty-something hot-shot
That just reads like juvenile whining
About the usual angst against society
Making the pages of a newspaper’s book section
Knowing I wrote about those things when I was young
You’re not the only one to experience
Sexism,
Ageism,
Etcetera…
I am still trying to get through
Hopefully, I’ll experience success before I perish
