Unescorted

Relaxing, floating, drifting, drifting…
a gentle summer’s breeze
colder water carries away thoughts and worries
time feels at a stand still
as the mind slowly unwinds, becomes silent.
The water caresses, soothes entire body
every muscle in her face is relaxed
with a peaceful dormant expression.

Death arrived cold, unannounced, observed solemnly
took in the peaceful mood and scene
sensed no thoughts or worries
found it hard to take his eyes away
then left sad and puzzled
assumed she’d probably had beaten him to it
by taking the journey back home, alone,
unescorted.

Note:  Listening to YouTube’s mix while typing this poem, this song started playing, it  matched my poem in some respects, synchronicity… serendipity.  This time the Universe’s song choice for this poem.
