Last night I laid awake, recalling the things we said.

What I am and what I’m not to you,

what I wish I could be, but most likely won’t.

So many years, loving you and all that you do.

I’ve gone blind, seeing no fault in you.

Yet, you’ve gone visual,

seeing what I’m not and never was.

A life time of memories, hardships,

I stayed by your side…

Slapped by truth, knowing I’m not,

nor ever will be, the one you’d like me to be.

And I laid awake, knowing that life remains.
