I’m running to pin her to the ground
But she is faster
And more naive than I
Laughing all the while
childhood garment’s fall ill fitting on the floor
Leaving a trail behind.
I cannot keep her still and
Soon she will be gone completely.
My heart beat: bullets from a gun
Fired in succession upon deaf ears.
Hands that aren’t mind reach out to
Grab her.
I’m begging them,
“She’s only a child!”
