Have I ever told you

Have I ever told you
about when I touched the sky
The day I worked so hard
And raised myself so high
Looking from the bottom
I could not see the top
In my mind the fear grew
That I could possibly drop
I started my ascent slowly
Reached for sturdy hold
Pulled myself up straining
My movement so controlled
Surveying the eroded rock
For the next place I can grasp
I suddenly lose my foothold
Causing me to gasp
I regain my composure
Press my head against rock face
I wonder what I’m doing here
So solitude a place
Then I come to my senses
Tell myself I must go on
This battle from within my heart
Is not over until I’ve won
I climb and climb the mountainside
Slowly pressing on
Feeling like I’m winning
My fear has waned and gone
Now looking up I see the peak
Covered by a cloud
I pull myself up carefully
To achieve what I have vowed
The days been long and arduous
I ache from deep within
I see the summit within sight
In moments I should win
With all I have left I ascend
To the mountain crest
I stand up high amid the sky
Triumphantly beating my chest

Believe to achieve.
