The Pretenders

The pretenders are out there looking for you
No, not the singing group
but stalkers and predators roaming the earth
vessels with dark attachments
seeing who they can deceive and devour.

So be careful who you befriend
for these creatures won’t show their true colors
No, nay, nay,
they’ll hide behind a lamb’s coat faking love.
Spiritless terrorists cleverly disguised as light workers
yet they’re wolves with ulterior motives.

“Live and learn” for once you’ve experienced
some of these specimens
you’ll be able to spot these wicked pretenders.
So don’t go into agreement with such-
breakers of universal law
for you may you also reap their karma.

Note: Actions have consequences, both positive and negative
and these consequences can ripple through time and space,
impacting not just the person who acted, but also others.

  1. “Pretend” has a purposeful connotation to it, but your poem made me think how many people are just pretending because they are not sure what their truth is.

  2. Glad my poem made you think… Pretending it’s a psychological tool we use
to navigate the complexities of social interactions, protect our self-esteem,
and sometimes, to survive. But in this poem I’m referring to the negative side of
pretending or pretending to cause harm to others. Thank you for commenting.

    • I guess the reason I wrote my comment is that I find that the harm others behavior have on you is partly proportionate to how much you feel like their behavior is on purpose. If you also keep in mind that many times it may not be on purpose, which the definition you give of pretending also allows, maybe you can lessen the harm it does to you.
