The Christmas Trees Prayer

Standing tall in my corner

Of  your bright and merry room

Decorated with your trinkets

Arranged to your happy tune

This years theme enchanted forest

Like the woodland where I grew

Before you took me from my family

And everything I knew

Where the birds would play the music

As  I danced in the wind

Then shelter in my branches

And in the evenings they would sing

I know you tried to make things homely

With felted birds and sparkling deer

And hanging crystal icicles

You placed a snowflake by my ear

But I am starting to feel  weary

And my branches are turning brown

Your trinkets are feeling heavy

I fear I will come crashing  down

Now alas it’s too late for me

I am  silent like the Christmas choir

And I can see the twinkling forest

As my spirit rises from the fire

Next year please let my family have their Christmas

And be decorated in snow

Let them  party in the woodland

And be left in peace to grow

For in nature we are needed

More than ornaments in your room

We make homes for all the birds

And little squirrels that like to zoom

In and out of our branches

As they glide from tree to tree

We make the oxygen you breath

So greedy humans  leave us be

  1. What a lovely poem so true. This is why my family and I don’t decorate real trees. ❤️🌲
