I Like the Rain

Yeah, this won’t be metaphorically spoken

For I’m not in the mood to spin and weave my words as such.

Stress and rage have taken their toll for the day

And the cooling rain has gone away.

Yes, I like the rain

Its melancholy matches my own.

Its steady rhythm puts me at ease.

And though I thought I missed the sun

After the winter overstayed its welcome.

Truth is, I miss the rain

And all my darkness that it brings to the surface

Of all the angry and somber song lyrics,

All the dreary stories I love to read.

Because joy is not the only emotion!

And as such, I want the rain

To wash away the burning daylight

To sooth my soul the way no other weather can.

To sing a song that mutes the bulls**t

To remind me that the world can weep as well.

As I’ve said, I like the rain!

  1. I love this poem and how the rain seems to wash away the negative. I’ve written one called, “I love a rainy night” which basically describes the things you’ve mentioned here. Glad to know a fellow poet appreciates the rain. Superb!

    • Thank you Jarid! I’ve always loved rain and the past few days have really reminded me of that!

  2. ahh, i’ve been waiting for this.. still wondering what inspired you (except the rain ofc) but i’m glad you tried a different form.. “the world can weep as well”.. great stuff here 🙂

    • Honestly I was just pissed off and wanting to take some of it out of my head and put it on the page. It was raining earlier that day and I wanted it to come back to help ease some of my stress. Glad you liked it Nebojsa 🙂

  3. I’ve often wondered if people who love the rain like I do get the same feelings about it? Kind of a calming, sometimes melancholy that I welcome into my head! Out of all the places I’ve lived, the rainy ones were the best!!
