Had I not been drawn from the darkest pit
I should have never known light,
Had l never been gifted gossamer wings
I should never taken flight.
Had l never heard the sound of birds
I should never have learned to sing,
Had never heard a laughing child
I should never know the joy t’would bring.
Had l never known the feeble hand,
Succumb to graceful age,
I should not have known the parting tears,
At this life’s final stage.
Had I never looked beyond myself
To see the work of God’s own hands,
I would not have known his tenderness,
That broke my prison bands.
