A bidedal peasant
now walkin’ on eggshells

A shelf full of self-help advice
claimin’ sex sells

The hurt and anguish
servin’ as a mix in the fiction

and characters are dolled up
to paint a bleak contradiction

Door-stoppers in the act, caught with
copper keys inserted in locks
Pandora gave her consent
for men to open her box

The nature of our own desires
caged the siren that fought
Passions are wild and reversed

just like the hound and the fox

It’s been a while
since my last inspiration
Poetic thoughts had used to flow down
from my mind to my ink

My recent rampant state of mind
has made it harder to think
Washin’ dishes, one-of-a-kind poet
now seeking vindication

Suspicious of my
lack of contributions
And as of late, I’ve designated
my excuses to loss

Carry this grief with disbelief and shame –
no wonder the cost
Hold your applause: my hefty heart
is far from ready for retribution

I’m spillin’ secrets on
a white sheet of paper
With thin borders that separate
my thoughts from writin’ for keeps

With darker themes in permanent marker,
these verses ain’t cheap
And written lines throwin’ shade
at those out of line are safe to savor

Can’t be helped. Blame the penmanship.

  1. You tell this story better than I could’ve. This is such a drama filled yet suspenseful poem that keeps the reader on the edge. Said it over and over that no one can tell a story like you. Another solid gold (no pun) piece!

    • Jarid I can’t thank you enough for stopping by and for your incredible support man. It humbles me that you consider me a great storyteller. I truly appreciate it man!

  2. Lack of inspiration is annoying, but it does feel good when you find it again. And it’s always fun to read what you’ve come up with Cyrus! This is no exception, well done!

    • Thanks a lot man, much appreciated 🙂
It irks me when I have an idea in mind but it doesn’t seem plausible to put it on paper. I’m still going to do it however 🙂 Thanks again!

  3. Love the thought behind this piece.
    Especially this verse;

    “I’m spillin’ secrets on
    a white sheet of paper
    With thin borders that separate
my thoughts from writin’ for keeps”

    So dope! 🔥

    • haha Undoubtedly one of my favourite verses on here for sure. Glad you find it amazing bro. Thanks for your continued support!

  4. looking for inspiration? read the first stanza again.. I really can’t remember the last time I enjoyed reading aloud that much..

you know I can relate to this.. maybe I can’t appreciate what I’m writing at the moment, maybe it just takes time, but sometimes I think it’s been a while since I wrote something that would actually surprise me when I read it.. not talking about you, tho, this piece is incredible.. 🙂

    • haha Thanks man. I sincerely hope that you find that synergy again. I know that you’re very capable of surprising us all (paradoxically unsurprising us with your immense talent), so I look forward to your next concoction!
