Don’t ask me to remember. You may not understand.
Please don’t lecture me. Just simply hold my hand.

I’m sick and often sad. Often I’m depressed.
Never ever leave me please, nor love me any less.

Please don’t scream or holler. Don’t you make me cry.
Just comfort me all of my days while I’m still alive.

Can’t help the way I’m acting. Symptoms often show.
I need to see my mommy. What, she died so long ago?

The best of me is gone. How the years go by.
I hold my baby picture as a tear fall from my eye.

Have my good and bad days. Often reminisce.
Say you are my friend? I wonder to believe in this.

Forgive my lack of faith. Things just slip my mind.
If I could I would, I’d simply turn the hands of time.

Admit I do sacred. Don’t know what’s going on.
Love me please I ask of you until I’m dead and gone.

  1. This was good Jarid. Gives a voice to someone who’s not always able to speak for themselves.

    • Thank you Robt! This was a difficult write for me as this has hit too close to home many times for me. I try to be a voice for others, but honestly cannot imagine how this feels for the one who suffers from this. Appreciate your comments.

  2. Definitely agree with Robt – You produce the voice for the helpless. I really appreciated this read, my friend – solid write!

    • Thanks Cyrus. This was different for me than any other poem, because being a voice is one thing but having to have gone through it myself is another. Like I told Robt, I cannot imagine what it’s like to go through it and imagine it can be very hard on the person. I do what I can however to at least give them some type of voice and to show someone out there can somewhat understand. Thanks once again for your continued support!

  3. Very touching and heartfelt poem. So sad to see our loved ones deteriorate.
My best friend of many years died from Alzheimer disease last year.

    • My condolences to you for loosing your best friend to this. It is sad to see this as I myself lost my aunt due to Alzheimers. Appreciate you taking the time to read and comment, my friend.

      • My condolences too. I pray our minds stay sharp.
You’re welcome and thank you also for your time and commenting.

  4. Great piece of writing, my friend!
This awful disease took my Grandmother..

It also created one of my favorite memories of her.

As my mother baked, then handed her a slice of her favorite pie.. She turnt to me & said; “Here you go! I just made this for you..” 😍😱

Thanks for creating this beaut, my friend!

    • Such fond memories you have for her I see. My condolences to you for loosing her to this. I know the feeling. Appreciate your continued support.
