After Christmas

Christmas is over, the gifts all unwrapped
The house is a mess, and my energy’s sapped
It’s dark and it’s quiet, at home by myself
Not a reindeer in sight, no Santa, no elf
It’s boring and dull, nothing good on TV
The state of my kitchen’s pathetic to see
The boughs of the tree seem to droop more and more
Its needles already all over the floor
And then take a look at the presents I got
I was so disappointed at what Santa brought
A sweater that’s itchy in neon lime green
A vase of pink plastic, so cheap it’s obscene
Two boring books and three pairs of white socks
A hardened fruitcake I put back in the box
I feel so depressed when I look at it all
To the point where I’m banging my head on the wall
The day after Christmas is like a bad dream
A bummer, a drag, makes me just want to scream
New Years comes next and you know what I think?
I’m starting it early, right now, with a drink!
