BLIND BEND

Auburn and gold, splattered on green
Pine, willow, cedar and ash
Smoke on the trees, pressure released
soon I’ll be out of your reach

Foot after foot, ankles twisting
Arms spread over creosote ties
Knees start to shake, earth to vibrate
Head down, I admire the view

Beaten black rails pounded to brilliance
Wood that is soiled to black
Grass that once grew will soon be a thought
Peppered with three-quarter stone

Looking ahead, i see a wonderous sight
Yet the world screams at me, MOVE
Pain pellets down, hard on my frame
I black-out with a smile on my face

I wake in my bed, stars in my eyes
You tell me to look but I can’t
slow moving fate, i have no fear
But don’t expect me to watch
