CHERRYWOOD LOVE

The preacher’s lips are moving
But I can’t hear him speak
My mind’s in sinking sand
I must be out of reach

Pew by pew they kneel
The priest he waves his arms
Row by row they stand
Until the curtain falls

People stand to applaud
I see them pound their palms
But the only thumping I can hear
Is blood inside my arms

Then they flock towards me
My eyes frozen to the floor
Pants and skirts start talking
Cartoon teachers on the phone

And in your box of cherrywood
as they walk you past me
I hear only your voice
(forever in my soul)
Whisper,
I love you too
