ESTHER

Alien eyes and the foreign land did not recognize my Jewish blood,
Raised by cousin Mordecai protecting me from conquest’s flood.
Chosen to be one of the many beautiful maidens for the title of the Queen,
Away from my people, undertook purgation rituals mean.
Envied by my own gender for my beauty and skin so fair,
My fate battled between hope and despair.
In the times of tribulation Almighty was my helm,
Bringing new hope and joy in my emotional realm.
After a year long stay in King Xerxes’ harem,
From the royal chamber, my female comrades returned with rejection and shame.
Destiny followed each woman from being an object of desire to a concubine,
All fears, conflicts and tears rose in me a stormy combine.
After forty eight moons, I was summoned to His Highness enclosure,
Enraptured by my intelligence and gorgeous splendour I became his muse and pleasure.
Empathized my fellow women for their ill fate,
Stunned and happy to be the King’s ceremonial mate.
From a shy Israelite girl with earthly sheen,
I became Xerxes ‘wife, Esther the Persian Queen.
From evil minister Haman’s plan to destroy my Jewish race,
Designed an expose’ to outwit the minister and make him fall out of Royal grace.
Saved my people and threw him to the gallows,
Wherever I go Divine providence follows.
Hailed as the rescue Queen by centuries late,
Never imagined I would be recalled as Esther the great.
