one night,
a long time back,
i climbed up
a little hill.
i was maybe ten,
possibly eleven.
curious i sat there,
in the evening dark,
waiting i was,
for the last train.
not many people,
in that village station.
it was dark,
not much of light.
sound of crickets,
and other creepies.
the air was still,
and nothing moved.
then my eyes,
looked up above
and i saw something
i have never seen.
someone had splashed
a bucket of diamonds
on a vast black canvas.
they sparkled above,
earth’s glittering crown.
bigger and wider
than
my eyes could hold.
my mind stumbled
for descriptions.
my eyes darted
among those twinkles.
then my soul paused,
and clicked my biggest photo.
i sat there endless,
eyes glued to the stars.
till the train tooted,
and I left that moment.
for years I have
searched
far and wide.
i have peered at
skies
through many nights.
never to see that image
develop once again.
now finally thirty odd
years later, this I realize
is the
only thing I can do.
just write a few words
and share my photograph.
