My Bones, My Body

The bones in her body,
wiggled and moved,
and it looked like she was twitching.
It was just her soul trying to escape her die-hard grasp.

It wasn’t her fault.
The soul was set on seeing the sky at midnight,
sleeping on grass in summer,
watching fireflies light the air,
and be in love.
And her body wasn’t up to that.

Eventually her soul got tired,
and went to sleep,
leaving her quite lonely,
and like a robot,
only going through the motions.

Every once in a while,
she holds her arm still,
hoping her soul is fighting again,
but the medication stopped that,
so she falls back into bed,
hopelessly alive.
