My Last Date

My dearest friends I ask you
To take a stroll with me
Down memory lane, My last date
With the man I would marry
A handsome man mind you and
A generous man at that. Why he,
Of all men should feel deserving
for the attention I generously gave him
Now excuse me if I say that the man I love
Was not as loving for that is not true.
Because he was indeed highly above
The hate I had for him
Truly he was a marvelous man
With face of a thousand smiles
Yet they were all not for me
Why should he smile for anyone
And smile the same for me?
If so while we are outing
Should he show a grin and gesture
To anyone less than me?
Is my company to him the same
As a happy child on the street?
Was my company, I repeat
No better than a lady serving
Then let all smiles stop
And the world cease to exist
Because only I would he be marrying.
As you can see to this day
There he sits from day to day
By my side quietly awaiting
My every need of him
Like a devoting husband
Never leaving, always enduring.
You may think me a kind woman
And generous for taking such a man
Even though his smile may slip
From me to another, though
It may seem as a simple gesture
But what if it’s something more?
I cannot say for sure
I am not the jealous type.
But it was that last date
My love became my man
And in a picture of my love and me
Entwined with a mixture
Of love and hate between us.
