Prevailing

I wrestled in the darkness of night
and the moon was gone
as if plucked from the sky,
by him that laid his hands
on me and twisted my arms
almost out of their sockets.

We rolled to and fro
and weakness came upon me
and still I tried to overcome
and hang on to him
with all of my strength.

A Terrible mighty hand
had smitten me
on my hip
and my leg hurt terribly,
but still in strength
I clung to him
and didn’t know
with whom I struggled
and wouldn’t let go.

“Let me go,” He said to me,
when the sun started to rise
over the hills in the East,
but I wouldn’t let Him free
until He blessed me.
