Seasons of Life

A blanket of white,
pure and unblemished,
as if an innocent child,
unaware of what life will hold for them.
It is cold, as they shall learn,
and they long for warmth.
But with the warmth of spring
comes the loss of innocence,
the rain of sadness,
and the winds of arguments,
yelling and yanking,
molding their opinions in the way
they wish it.
It grows hotter,
and angrier,
as summer appears,
and the winds die down as the
child is molded into the way they
want it.
The heat is the child’s anger,
boiling and continuing to grow.
There are rare days when it is cool,
as if the anger is gone,
and they are peaceful.
And when fall comes,
they have learned how
to control the anger;
deal with the pain
and sadness
life throws at them.
They marvel at the
jeweled leaves that
fall from the trees,
collecting them as if
real jewels and throwing
them over their head as they
laugh and run and play…
once again innocent children,
until the rain of spring,
and the heat of summer return…
over
and
over until they are
unable to
remember what
innocence was
ever
like.
