Snowflakes on Eyelashes

A blizzard pounds against my window,
eyes pleading with me,
desperate but cold.

Everything about it reminds me of you,
The color of the grey sky,
even though your eyes are green like nothing.

When I lay in the snow,
eyes blinded by darkness and white and everything between.
Breath, a cloud above my vision.
Stars making the sky endless.

We’re upside-down,
like Alice falling through the looking glass.
Trees dangle at odd angles,
becoming bigger and smaller,
branches tinted with powder.

Here,
I think of you,
and pressing my lips to the snow,
how you would taste,
could only be better then this freezing touch.

Now, I am frozen here,
my soul hurting above the heart.
Body preserved for when I should be awoken,
by only what can awake poets like me.

Silence.
