The eastern sky is streaked with gold
Above the mountaintops behold
Spring arising;
Branches stretching toward the sun
Winter’s frost at last undone
Buds awaken;
In the field a cunning fox
Welcomes vernal equinox
Field mice scamper;
Robins grace the garden gate
For their breakfast worms they wait
Gently preening;
A Crocus in the flowerbed
Slowly lifts her sleepy head
Greets the morning;
And I am finally waking up
With java in my favorite cup
Yawning deeply;
Time to clear the cobwebs out
That’s what springtime’s all about
Life is blooming.
