‘ The Cowboy Was Bulletproof … (Cowboy Poem # 22)

Thru His Age Lines, I Still Saw Youth
Smiling Sharpshooter, Caliber-Cute
Still Standing Tall In Hard-Worn Boots
The Cowboy, Was Bulletproof

Now, Here Was A Man Who Took Aim, Too
Not Trigger-Happy, He Thought Things Thru
So All Cowpokes, Do What Cha’ Gotta’ Do …
But This Cowboy, Is Bulletproof

I’m Telling You, To Leave You In No Doubt
This Cowboy, Knows What He’s About
Be Careful, if You Call Him Out
It May Be The Last Words Out Of Your Mouth

… Best Man, To Have In A Shootout, Or Near
Best Man, To Have In A Showdown, Dear
‘Cause When The Dust and Smoke Finally Clears
Bulletproof Cowboy, Will Be Standing Here

… Playin’ Games, He Don’t Give A Hoot
He’ll Fight With Fists, Steel-Toe and Tooth
He Won’t Let You Steal Our Legal-Loot
And The Cowboy, Is Bulletproof

Now, He Don’t Have Gunslinger Ways
He’s A Gentle Man … He Even Prays
But In A Fight, He’ll Face A Barrel, He Ain’t ‘Fraid
‘ … The Cowboy, Is Bulletproof-Brave’

… Against Blazing Gunfire Of Wrongs
Against Rifles, Ricocheting Alarms
Against Misfire, Friendly-fire, & Backfire Harms
And Quick On The Draw, Sidewinder-Storms

Yep, He’s Protected Against Pop-Up Lies
Against Six-Shooters Causing Strife
Against Ammunition, Arrows and Knives
(Lord, I Hope He Makes Me, His Wife)

‘Cause They Can’t Cut Down His Dream-Roots
They Couldn’t Gun Down This Lawman’s Truth
And His Love For Me … They Couldn’t Shoot
… ‘Cause The Cowboy … Is Bulletproof
