All I have is all you see, says he, to a pretty maiden,
I have no land, or stock or home, my pockets are barely laden,
I’ve travelled far, roamed this land, worked hard when I was able,
No bed had I, or sheltered roof, except the occasional stable.
Said she to him, I care not, of what you have to say,
As you can see, I have it all, my wealth’s as plain as day,
My house is large, my land is vast, and my purse is full of money,
All I have, is all you don’t, now don’t you find that funny?
The aging man, just tipped his hat and gazed into her eyes,
Your beauty is overwhelming, but it’s just a sweet disguise,
Do riches make you happy? What of love and health and kin?
If you were given an ultimatum, which would you trade in?
She thought for but a minute, then stared right back at him,
I could not survive without my family, children and husband Tim.
For them and health I’d lose the bounty, I would hand it on a plate,
As my life without my loved ones, is a life I’d surely hate.
The man, well, he gave a smile, and took her by the hand,
Said he, who’d get your fortune, when you’re taken from this land?
You see you cannot bring it with you, it stays right hear you see?
When you reach your destination, you will be as poor as me.
His hand was soft but strong, and she could not pull away,
Let go your grip please sir, what words are these you say?
I have no end of loved ones, my children, friends, and spouse,
Now unhand me sir I beg you, pray tell, what’s this about?
The old man held her tight, and pulled her close to him,
He whispered, time to go, and then placed a kiss upon her chin.
I’m an angel sent from god, to guide you on your way,
For it’s my job to ask these questions, to see what you would say?
She turned towards her children, playing with their dad,
Her heart full with contentment, good times that she’s had,
She won’t be carrying trinkets; all she’ll have is love,
For the ones, that she will wait for, in heaven up above.
He holds her shaking body, and wipes away her tears,
Talks to her real softly, to help her face her fear,
As her time approaches, his body starts to glow,
He wraps his wings around her, to protect her from the blow.
She didn’t feel a thing, as the vehicle took her life,
No mother for her children, her husband with no wife.
No thought of any money, or the land, and property,
Just happy, that all she cares for, will know where she will be.
