Why I do I say, ‘not today, not today’?
I don’t refuse but I don’t like the play
Isn’t it clear? The climate’s not ready
When the conditions are only
That I accept the weather your way…
I don’t wish to continue the volley
The ball has dropped in my court, I see
Do you wish me to throw it back
And begin the same game again?
Yes, I am a poor sport man, but I am bored
I will not play this way anymore…
Forgive me if I do not accept
The challenge to another round
I would sooner tear the sticky net down
For it makes anything have two sides
Attractive only to spiders and flies
But catching to neither spies nor wives…
Should the curtain by some slip fall
Boldly, I would dropp that invisible wall
And be rid of the nuisance once and for all!
It is as if I have an opponent
Serving me ball after ball
But I won’t return them, I want a recall…!
