Memories In The Attic

Memories in the Attic

A treasure chest I opened
When I climbed up Attic ladder
Hidden in boxes, bags, and chest
Things that didn`t matter.
But not quite true I told myself
But memories stored away,
To see when time allowed me too
Like now, this hour, this day.
Memories poured within my mind
as trunk was made unsealed
To touch my heart and make me weep
The things this chest revealed.
A wedding dress in lace and silk
That once was part of me,
But the vows I took when wearing it
to stay was not to be.
I hugged this dress of happy times
The pefume near as fresh
As teardrops fell upon my face
Oh didn`t we make a mess?
Then a bag so pretty tied with lace
in a bundle at the bottom
My babies tiny little clothes
And I forgot I got them.
Little booties and matinee coats
brought memories back of happy days
Time gone so very quickly
And thoughts are in a haze.
My beautiful babies of that time
Are men now and how they have grown
To live will others that they love
And have children of their own.
Love letters tied in lavender bow
They are my secret past
Of loves and lives that have moved on
And were never meant to last.
But attics open floodgates
That bring back memories of way back then
But I wish we could step back in time
To relive those times again.
