The Sunflower

In the letterbox one day, a packet of seeds had come my way
A gift from local real estate, and not passed there used by date
Giant sunflowers need a stake, into the ground with hoe and rake
Shoots soon began to grow, every day an inch or so
A sturdy stem with generous leaf, and a head beyond belief
Golden yellow petals beamed, reflection of the sun it seemed
A picture taken with a note, to my benefactor , “quote”
Thank you for the sunflower seed, with loving care i did feed
Its bloom lightens up my day, that’s really all i have to say.
she wrote back she was ecstatic, i made her day she was emphatic
from a seed that i watched grow, a friendship to it did bestow
