Seasons Change (for the XVII)

My Vanity (Inner Spring)
Aim to gratify, Cy – you’re my type o’ guy!

High five, buddy! Have at it
Got a bad habit seekin’ validation
Lab rat about it – murder with intent yet no alibi

Continue to observe from the sidelines
the youth who clearly deserve better guidelines!
Torn families stay numb despite
the nation’s heart weighin’ heavy
It’s exactly like the last time!

Be Terrified (Cruel Summer)
“Ground shaken, unstable nation-

unable to change? I’m vexed!
No texts from my best friend, so I’m
losin’ sleep, I ain’t eatin’ and my heart’s been racin!’”

“I’ve been waitin’ six hours at home
I’m lonely, and she’s never been this elusive!
Yup! Nothin’ on the news but excuses
Alleged that she died? Well I choose to refuse it!

Be Expected. (Hope Falls)
“Well I’m sorry for your loss, kiddo,

but the gun violence keep us silently
stunned for a little… tears come with it.
Grieving moms livid, patience always lost at the hospital.

“But I wish we could turn back time,
and acted on the signs that were present-
even got a tip from his parents.

“Should’ve followed up

Hollow point rounds found,
but that’s all that we’re sharing.”

Be the Symbol. (Winter’s Grief)
And now my little Summer’s in heaven…

another couple months and
she would’ve turned eleven.

“A smart and benevolent angel
This world didn’t deserve her-
this sh*t is outrageous!

“Remembering her laugh, so contagious
Couldn’t miss it… it was one for the ages
She’s now a statistic, a victim, I’m pissed
at this twisted, disorganized system…”

SO F’CK YOU for the loss of Helena!
For Gina, for Cara, for Nicholas and Carmen!
AND F’CK YOU for Joaquin, for Alaina,
for Peter, for Meadow, for Scott and for Martin!

And for Luke and Alyssa, man-

F’CK YOU  for Jamie, for Alex,
for Chris and for Aaron…

Can’t you see that your ignorance is glaring?

  1. That image alone had me feelin’ a sorta way, in anticipation..

Then you hit me, with this.
    POWERFUL!
    POWERFUL!
    POWERFUL!

With the recent shooting in Florida, this was felt hard. Damn..

    Impressive! ??

    • Thanks for stopping by, man. I’m simply venting my frustration. It’s actually based on the recent shooting, brother – the names mentioned at the end are the first names of the victims of that shooting. they are the 17/XVII. So I somewhat dedicate this to them, and to the corrupted system.

Well, you have me in tears. I feel your frustration. Powerful write!

    • Thank you for stopping by, Kara Jean. I sincerely appreciate it.

  3. regarding the subject, I say we have short memory, we’re way too tolerant towards things that shouldn’t be tolerated, we’re shortsighted.. these things that happen all over the world aren’t coincidences, they’re indications that something went totally wrong.. & the idea of a quick, sudden change is incredibly naive.. but we still move in a better direction by talking about it, trying to understand it better, because if words are a weapon, then theory is too of course.. and there, “She’s now a statistic” tells us how we can’t solve it until we put humans & nature before everything else, instead of playing a chess game on the board of society.. how can that be done? some other time, I won’t start now, it would be too much xD

what do I have to say about the awesomeness of the poem? oh, there, I did it already 😀 you did a great job once again.. loved the idea with seasons.. but you know that ofc 🙂

    • Yeah you’re right about the short term memory, brother. I’d argue that the problem is rooted even deeper than that, but until we isolate, identify, and do something about it, this will all repeat. “Be expected” showcases that repetition, and it’s such a vicious loop. Here’s to a better world where, as you said, humans are no longer numeric. I really appreciate you for stopping by, brother 🙂

  4. Emotional piece…I feel the anger and sadness here as well as in myself. You’ve outdone yourself. This one just got to me.

    • Thanks for the response, my friend – glad to see that you got a reaction out of it 🙂

  5. midnightrain

Oh this was so emotional… It’s shame how quickly things like this are forgotten. It’s like we never learn and we keep losing people again and again. It’s mad world. You are right to be angry. Powerful words as always Cy.

    • Thank you, Midnight. Yes this one was more of an emotional reaction write. Freeform, with very little attention to structure haha. As long as the angst was able to shine through, I’m happy. I’m even happier that you stopped by and read it, so once again, I thank you 🙂
