A FAMILY OF GIANTS (PART 1) A DESERVING TRIBUTE TO DOROTHY A. HOLMES

I am here amongst a giant. A giant of life and love and song. Adventure is her nickname. Cynthia is her middle name. I call her Aunt Dorothy. Others call her poet, author, artist, singer, painter…gifted. One calls her wife. Two call her mommy. Many call her friend. Thousands call her Ms. Holmes but most call her amazing and I would have to agree.

“Why amazing?” Because she simply is. She’s nobody’s quitter, more like a go-getter. To her the word “CAN’T” stands for nothing more than the “COWARD THAT NEVER TRIED” and she is a lion, devouring challenges like tic tacs, not into get backs. She is a fluttering butterfly with prize fighter like reflexes.

Too busy being productive. Productive at making a difference, yes…a positive difference in the hearts and minds of children. Inspiring her peers, leading by example with a “NO LIMIT” type motivation but I digress.

In the 30’s she said “HELLO WORLD”. In the 50’s she became a first time mom. In the 60’s she worked for AVON. In the 70’s she became a published author. At age 72 she discovered she could paint and I’m talking AWARD WINNING PAINTER…Stop the Madness!

In her youth, she would wander fearlessly out into the world never knowing what wonderful opportunities might present themselves but was always open in her readiness for them. Care free, free spirit. Never needing permission and never asking for it either. Always soaring to new heights. Challenging herself to be her very best as to say “Lazy mind, I never knew you.”
