What Happened Yesterday

Yesterday, she saw me, standing, waiting, and watching.
She must have smiled, but I didn’t see it.

She approached me quickly, calmly, and quietly.
She could’ve screamed and I wouldn’t have heard it.

She whispered my name, she whispered my fate.
She could’ve killed me, but I wouldn’t have cared.

She pulled my hand and danced with me.
She was so cold, but I didn’t think about it.

She spun me around, in circles, for years.
I wanted to stop, but she wouldn’t let me.

She giggled and whispered, she smiled and grinned.
She pretended as if we were happy, but we weren’t.

She mumbled my name, she mumbled my past.
She knew too much, but I couldn’t stop her.

She spun me more, in twirls, for years.
I wanted to leave, but she wouldn’t let me.

A crowd began to form around us, and her eyes lit up in glee.
All she wanted was attention, and I let her have it.

From in the crowd, someone reached out a hand, and she took it.
I could’ve asked her to stay, but I didn’t.

She pushes me away, she disappears.
She must have smiled, but I never saw it.
