Demons Run

This is a declaration of war
against an invisible system,
one that promises the dawn of “a new age”
where the weak will be too blind to listen

The same monstrosity that paints a picture
at society’s most gullible and fearful people;
pain is multiplied if they try to subtract it,
and where divisions of added minds are never equal

The same monstrosity that hosts twisted games
played with infinite clocks and in broken courts,
where opposing teams wear discomforting masks
with marked uniforms in barricaded forts

The same monstrosity that chuckles at your pain
and finds joy in your sorrow;
the joker in a cursed deck of cards
dealt for you and your tomorrow

I have a message for you, monster,
so you best listen closely.
I am going to kill you.
Do you understand me?

I will greet the storm of arrows with open arms
to protect the dreamers of this world,
to risk death by a thousand cuts
and shield the children from rocks being hurled

I will supply the ink that signs the decree
that shuns and marks you for death;
I will offer a safe haven for the scholars
and aid them in maintaining their health

I will starve your war-craved stomach
by feeding you to those hungry for order;
your Achilles’ heel inscribed between the lines
as ink spills within and beyond the border

And when you tire and beg for mercy,
I urge you to not expect it
You’ve harmed these people long enough,
so your punishment must be accepted,

because when we finally meet in mortal combat,
you’ll not have a clue for what’s in store
The Gods will not soon forget that demons run
when good men go to war.

    Yeah!! Go Cyrus, guardian of the dreamers! Slayer of the demons! Haha I loved this. This was such an emotional awakening kind of poem. If you had asked me to fight with you, I would have gladly followed.

    • Haha, well I’m surrounded by truly capable liberators of their craft, you among them 🙂 This is my battle cry for those who haven’t taken the plunge of expression 🙂 It’d be a real honor to stand by you on the battlefield, Midnight 🙂 Thanks!

  2. Damn, man.
    This got me already for a fight.. err to write!
    I’ll follow you into battle, my friend!
    Would be an honor.

    • It’d be an honor to have you by my side, brother 🙂 Time to lace our boots up! Ha. Thanks for reading!

  3. the invisible system you mention reminds me of most of the social “inventions” based on the principles of rationalism.. I’ve been reading a lot on that subject lately, & I simply had to relate the entire idea of progress, the economic efficiency, the rule of “reason” & the mechanization of the society as a whole, with what you talk about here.. I’ll probably post a piece “The liberal paradox” soon, which talks about a system of thought swallowing all opposition by using tolerance, so you might see my take on it..

    & another thing, this piece has got great power to raise some revolutionary spirit, so I say let’s overthrow it..

    pure gold! 😉

    • That’s certainly a way to perceive it, brother. If you remember, I had written several pieces on the concept of metal contracts forced on flesh, and this piece was one of my many “boiling points” pieces. I look forward to that piece though 🙂 Thanks again!

  4. This has to be hands down my favorite by you. Amazing lines flowing smoothly. You deserve a round of applause for this one. Superb!

    • Gosh man I sincerely appreciate that. Thanks a lot for reading!

    • To you as well, fellow poet 🙂 Thank you kindly for reading!

  5. This one was so powerful that I actually had to hang on so to speak. I wanted to stop and ponder each line, but I just had to keep reading. The language, the message, the rhythm, everything was just raw power!

    • I’m so very glad that you responded to it as much as you did, my friend 🙂 I truly appreciate the read – thanks so much for checking it out!
