You’ve escaped me in life
And I don’t like to be cheated.
So the greatest way to cause you strife,
You won’t rest unless you have a death-wish!
Turn on every machine,
Make yourself high on caffeine
You only have time
To say goodbye
Before your soul is mine.
Alone in the dark
With your world falling apart.
Your mind unravels at the seems
Fatigued you fall into this dream
Coming ever closer here to me
As you’re falling asleep.
You’ve awakened once more
But, not for long.
Balance falters and vision distorts.
As you’re blinking
The room is shrinking.
Your debt is due
And I’m collecting soon.
Before the dawn I’ll come for you!
Will you sleep,
If Death wants you?
You won’t dream,
Cause I haunt you!
Surrender your life
To ease your mind
Give in, lay down and die.
Alone in the dark
With the beating of your heart.
It seems you can’t escape this fate
And in this mindscape here I wait.
Oddly relaxed and at peace,
You’ve fallen asleep.

This poem took me on a ollercoaster, mainly because of the fact that sleep is so elusive for me, so it’s like crawling through hell in order to get it. A commend you for writing a rather vivid piece!

I call it ‘demon’s perspective’.. some parts of it sound like you’ve used that kind of imagery to represent the brutal overproduction of everything in our modern life, (or postmodern, whatever) , tho the mythical imagery also gives it a new dimension.. i may be wrong, but it’s just my interpretation.. in any case, it’s fabulous work 🙂
