Bobbing for Sobtiety

There is something stopping me from getting sober,
It’s like a red light, a brick wall, a black hole.
I know it’s up to me and that theirs is no magic trick
But I feel like I’m learning to swim again and forgot how to kick.

I’m barely bobbing above the surface
Of this advanced, deep, dark sea
Caught in a rip that I’m pushing against,
Too strong for a life guard to rescue me.

One can only stay above water for so long
Until your lungs fill with water and you peacefully float down;
Unable to see, speak or swim,
One will accept the laws of the ocean and drown.

All your friends and family
Are watching from the shore
Telling you to swim harder
But you cannot fight the current anymore.

It is expensive to hire rescue teams
Who can never quite be sure,
That you won’t find your way back to that ocean
And fight the fight once more.

  1. judging by this poem, you’ve already begun the process of recovery. You have to first realize you’re drowning. that’s a really big deal.

You’re once again enslaving when reading where you are and where you’ve been! Your mind is so precise in leaving the clues to all the places you’ve walked in. Mystery seems to be your madness and I doubt you cannot swim. There are no missing strokes and kicks coming from your pen!
